Hello!

Well, today was a good one.

Finally took a step and bought myself a new lens. It is a staple of photographers everywhere, the nicknamed 'Nifty Fifty' 50mm f1.8 (Canon).

Went out and about with it and took a few snaps to break her in.

I also sat down and organised what I believe to be some of best photos into a Digital folio, though haven't figured how to publish them in bulk yet...

To be continued...

London 2010

OK, this is a biggy...I was thinking of breaking it up, but a giant lump seems fun.

13/07

Arrived in London at some time in the afternoon. Nothing really spectacular, however did see Shrek 4 in 3-D at the Imax near Waterloo. That was fun. Bought another Monster can that was kept and flown back with me.

14/07

In the morning went to Tate Modern. Two exciting exhibitions there.

First one was a collection of photography centred around surveillance, voyeurism and other such activities. That was an invigorating experience if somewhat grim in parts. Well, really grim, but considering the subject matter that is to be expected.

The second exhibition was of works by Francis Alys, a Belgian born artist that works a lot in film and video creating pieces that span long periods. The pieces are fairly defining in where the name 'Time Based Art' comes from. Anyone, some these were quite interesting, like and another work involving him running into tornados. There were others I didn't feel were as interesting.

Next was a walk along the South Bank to the Hayward, where there was another couple of exhibitions.

The first exhibition was a collection of abstract sculptures from various artists (title coming soon). This was mixed bag with a few pieces being interesting, while others were lifeless and a mess.

The second exhibition was a series of installations by Ernesto Neto. This was a more enjoyable exhibition as it was a number of large scale, interactive pieces and work that is interacive is easily accepted by those there to view it, which leads to a better viewing experience.

15/07

Went to the science museum in the morning. That place is fairly fascinating.

In the evening, went to see Penn & Teller, which was a fantastic show.

16/07

Went out in the morning with my camera and took a fair few pictures.

(This seems a little brief at the moment, but it will expand as ponder some of the things detailed)

Summer 2010 (08/07/2010)

OK, so, my collection of Monster cans is on the up and up. Haven't taken a census on the number yet, but I imagine it is around thirty.

Now, the purpose of these cans is still the subject of a mental debate. The front runner of this debate is there will be used as part of a performance that is a homage to Pink Floyd's performance of THE WALL, when a wall was constructed between band and audience, a comment on the segregated nature their performances had become: the division between band and audience.

Now, my performance would be me building the wall of Monster cans, a comment on the consumerism in music, which would then lead on to me playing a song on 78 spd vinyl, followed be two or three instrumental guitar tracks (live) then another song on vinyl. The wall, however, would remain in place until I came off the stage demolished it from the side of the view 'public'

Also, there is work to be on my film, 'Eric Fights Boredom'

The main sticking point at the moment is casting. It is one thing that I don't know how to go about doing, everything else I have experience with. On that note, I should mention that I have an idea who I want in each role:

Writer - Me
Director - Me
Sound - Duncan Craig
Director of Photography - Andrew Downie
Production Designer - Katy Mason
Editor - Me
Producer - anybody?

Anyway that does it for now, ciao
